José Martín Cáceres (born March 17, 1987 in Montevideo) is a Uruguayan football player who is currently playing for F.C. Barcelona. His primary position is central defender.
Cáceres started his career in his homeland of Uruguay with Defensor Sporting Club, at a young age Cáceres became a regular of the first team. In total he made 26 first team appearances scoring 4 goals.
In February 2007, Cáceres signed for Villarreal CF in Spain for five years on a free transfer from Uruguayan football club Defensor Sporting Club for a fee reported to be 1 million euros.
He was on loan to Recreativo de Huelva in 2007-08, where he was a defensive stalwart for the Andalusia side. On January 9, 2008, Cáceres scored a vital goal against Villarreal, the team that owned his rights, in a Spanish Cup match which Huelva won 1-0.
Cáceres joined FC Barcelona on June 4, 2008, with a reported transfer fee of €16.5 million being paid to Villarreal. A buyout clause of €50 million was included in the deal, which runs through the end of the 2012 season.
